John Allan MA
1893 - 1979 John Allan was born In Coatbridge, went to Glasgow University, taught in Coatbridge and eventually became Rector of Airdrie Academy until 1958. He painted all over the west coast of Scotland, especially Iona, during his summer holidays and after he had retired. He mostly gave away his paintings as he was reluctant to sell his work. His family knew he didn’t want publicity for his work and stored his paintings until 2013 when many came on the market. Most were unsigned.
