George Houston RSA RSW RI
1869 - 1947
Scottish landscape painter and etcher, noted for his serene paintings of the lowlands and west coast of Scotland. Houston was one of the first of the growing numbers of artists to visit Iona in the first half of the twentieth century, and he exhibited paintings of the island over a longer period than any other, between 1898 and 1943. He originally went to the island in 1889 for his honeymoon.
