Henry Young Alison

1889-1972 Painter and brother of David Alison, born in Dysart, Fife. His work was mainly portraiture, still lifes and landscapes especially of Tiree. He exhibited at the RSA, GI, and once at the RA. He trained at the Glasgow School of Art and gained his Diploma in 1911. During the First World War he served in France but was captured and held as a prisoner of war. Whilst imprisoned he lost the sight of one eye. He joined the staff of the Glasgow School of Art in 1927.
